There should be plenty of cash in the bank from various windfalls over the last few seasons - sale of Jamie Vardy, Bradford City televised cup tie, Charlton televised cup tie, sale of Lee Gregory, etc. And the board are quite rightly prudent when it comes to spending the money i.e. they are spending the cash based on the crowds they are getting rather than based on what is in the bank. Unfortunately it seems things are settling down and the performances are matching the investment being made in the team so Rich is probably correct to some extent that FCHT have been punching above their weight.
However, the decline, which started around February earlier this year, doesnt fully reflect the above. The biggest complaint being made is that the players just dont appear to give a damn with effort being questioned. I am sure all Fax fans will agree that your success this last season was down to work ethic and attitude rather than it purely been down to having a team blessed with superstars. Attitude and effort is just as important as ability.
The board have a major decision to make now. Back the new manager with some financial investment to hopefully keep us in the league, which kind of goes against the way they manage the finances, or hope the new manager can turn things around using loans. Either way it isnt looking good.
Anyway, I am looking at attending some Fax games next season for the first time in 12 or so years. My partner and her children enjoyed the televised game against Bradford
