As has already been said on this thread 38 players into 17 don't go so something has to give. So for what is potentially 4 places in the team at half back / pivot (6, 7, 9 & 14) we had up to yesterday:
Finn, Briggs, Kain, Moore, Ellis, Flanagan, Hepworth, plus potential of the likes of Bussey, Mendeika, Teesdale, Chisholm, etc. in the wings, it just wouldn't fit. I get the impression that Finn didn't fit into the squad that JB is trying to put together, plus the fact that if we kept Finn there is always going to be a potential split of the dressing room, i.e. the Finn camp and the Moore camp. And given that Moore is the man that JB has brought in it was always going to be the case that Finn would be going.
The impression that I then get is that there was an agreement with Fax for Finn to go to Fax, but that this didn't suit Finn. Hence all the announcements in September, but now a more suitable place has been found at Cas that does suit Finn.
Hope Finn's second attempt at SL works out as did his second stint at Fev. Wish him and the other players going all the best.
So the million dollar question will it make Fev a weaker team next year. Seems reading all across the forums that there is a significant belief that Fev will not be as good next year as they have the last 4. Personally I am not a great believer in this, however I do think that Leigh, Fax have improved their squads significantly and that Sheffield will also still be as good next year as there were this year. Batley again will be strong and tough to beat. And as you look around the rest of the league the likes of Donny, Haven, Dewsbury, Crusaders have all improved their squads and will not be easy places to go and win. And therefore I believe that the league will be more even because a significant number of clubs have got better.
Will Moore be the player who is more interested in his hair do compared to tackling back as the Batley fans believe he is/will be only time will tell. Though I suspect that if he is he’ll not wear a Fev shirt for very long since as I stated above there are a number of players that will be after his starting place. Maybe it was that lack of competition at Batley than meant he was perceived to be a little lazy.
I for one can’t wait for the new season to start, because for a league of glorified friendlies (no promotion again) it is going to be a good one with a lot of ups and downs. Will Fev be top of the pile, maybe, but maybe not though I suspect we will be there or there about’s, as will a number of clubs.
