Gareth Ellis is worthy of everyone's respect. He's a player who has come on leaps and bounds in the NRL. He's also a testament to the top class coaching abilities of Tim Sheens who ironed out all those defensive flaws and the dodgy decision-making inherent in Ellis's game by instructing him on a back-to-basics re-education and learning program.

Its surprising he earnt himself a contract in the NRL at all given how poor you are implying he must have been when at Leeds.

What's the chances of getting him back to Headingley ? Sam Burgess too ? No quota then to worry about.

By NRL standards Ellis was poor - he was a SL standard player at Leeds. I don't find it surprising that a top NRL coach was able to recognise his potential for improvement. The desire to learn, improve and test himself in an elite competition was always there.

It's a common theme for those of a ted nature to point out how well a SL player is doing in the NRL and then arriving at the erroneous conclusion that it somehow provides evidence that SL standards are just as good - and perhaps even better - than the NRL. That is not the case.
