| Quote BrisbaneRhino="BrisbaneRhino"I'm very surprised, but I guess something had to give. Phil Gould a while ago said that it just sometimes reaches a point when players stop playing and its them or the coach. Its happened quickly this time, but you wonder if the same thing was happening under BM as well.
Now the onus is well and truly on the players. We've been terrible for almost two full years, and 3 out of the last 4, with a chunk of the squad here over the whole period.
That means only one of two things - either the players that are playing badly are genuinely not good enough, or they simply haven't been putting in the effort. Regardless of which is the answer to that one any players in either camp need to be got rid of over time - we don't want sub-par players and we definitely do not want players who only play when they want to.
How the team plays in the near future will tell us a lot about which camp some of our apparent duffers are in.'"
I would opt for the players are not good enough option. All the quality that filled the gaps in and made the mediocre players look better has gone. I don't think they have a good performance in them and our league position is absolutely accurate. I'm not sure what anyone was expecting from Furner, the team was when he joined us, we lost McGuire and Hall and surprise - it's still . If the players didn't "Like" him well f*** them, they hardly have any credit to trade with after last season and their abject uselessness this season.
A total mess wrapped in a shambles and delivered in a box of catastrophe.

But aren't we constantly told the good coaches in SL get average payers playing above their capability, Chester, Watson and Powell all are praised for making a team better than the sum of their parts, by that line of thinking if Furner was a good coach we would have seen some improvement from last year, especially as we have added a bit of quality from the NRL.

I believe that because you see your teams players every week they become bigger "names" than the mystery players from other teams. Because of that there is an expectation that "on paper" we look a better team than some others when in reality we're worse. There is the possibility that Furner was getting the best he or anyone else possibly could out of that squad. Furner might be a good coach with the wrong set of players.

| Well if there is no appointment in the next two or three games let's see if Agar gets a new coach bounce out of the players. After all that's being said about Furner wanting a number of them out. I would think if they have any pride they should be busting a gut to get on the field to prove him wrong

Well considering we are playing a championship team this week, there is hardly any excuses for that one is there?

| Adding 2 Marquee signings this year to our squad is akin to planting two prize rose bushes in a field full of weeds and expecting the Chelsea Flower Show!

But Sir Kev has previously said the same before and after the season started so I can’t see getting rid of Furner is going to change the mind sets of those players on the ‘no longer wanted’ list.

| So Watkins and Hall were on more than 150K ? and Sir Kev was wrong when he said we had not had Marquee players before this season ?

Yes, and Yes, if you want to put it like that. Or you can simply look at it for what it is, a play on words. It is the first time we have Marquee overseas players, it isn't the first time we have used the Marquee player rule on the cap, or at least according to Hetherington previously it wasn't.
