Thanks for the memories lads. I remember the 80s for always wondering what Aussie we were going to sign next and going along in high hopes...I guess the exchange rate must have been hugely favourable back then? Didn't we once have a full 1 to 13 Aussie team? (it felt like that at times from memory)

Trevor Patterson and Tony Currie produced the goods. The rest varied from reasonable to very poor in what was produced. Grothe was clearly a great player but not used properly.
I saw every game that season including away at Workington town with a crowd of less than 1,000, it may be lowest ever attendance for a competitive Leeds match. IIRC they were very unlucky to lose away at Hull KR in last game of year in premiership semi final.

I also attended the away fixture at Workington, courtesy of Wallace Arnold.
Seem to recall the feeling of being short-changed when the teams were announced over the tinniest sounding PA system imaginable that Eric Grothe wasn't playing.

Me too. Wally Arnold. Paul Gill came out in the 2 shirt. There were some French fans who also travelled up from London to see Grothe. He was a bit of a legend after the French leg of the '82 tour. |
