The game in this country is light years behind Australia in every aspect from junior development right through to the professional ranks. I don't expect this to change significantly enough during my lifetime. Deep down, even the most ardent supporter of Super League would concede that it's a deficient competition where the ordinary is often defined as greatness - where a mere handful of game-defining scoots in wide-open space by a one-trick dwarf is enough to secure another championship title.



England's only saving grace last week was the disgraceful performance of the video ref who ruled out two perfectly good tries to Australia whilst laughingly awarding a penalty try to England for an offence which ought to have been only a penalty. Otherwise the game would have been done and dusted at half time. I appreciate that we are desperate to beat Australia in a game that really counts but it shouldn't be at the expense of such blatant biased officialdom. Thankfully, class told in the second half in the form of green and gold.

Keith Swiftcorn never fails to deliver (with his painting-by-numbers posts). I just wish the same could be said for his performances for Royal Mail. We live in hope.
