i thought tomkins was going down with the ball and was ducking into ablett, i admit it looked far worse than it was and i don't believe that their was any malice intended.
if he had been stood upright then i can agree with you,but it's very hard to determine a pre-meditated head high shot when a player is going down before contact is made
if he gets banned then that will obviously be the benchmark for all similar incidents for the next week or so by our disciplinary, but i bet that self same tackle will go unpunished come GF play-off time

| It looked bad but Ablett's arm didn't even go that high, not even to neck level.
Some good aggressive RL last night, at least games when the top teams play each other are worth watching, because not a lot of SL is at the moment.

That's classic. Dirty git Tomkins trying to break poor Carl's elbow by "neck-butting" it.
Jeez, I didn't know such blue-tinted spectacles existed

Makes no odds, he led with elbow and connected with elbow..if it was elbow to chest and he puncutred his lung could have been even more serious..the head high doesnt come into it..he led with elbow which is worse..they cant ban him for deliberate head high, but can for delibertaley leading with elbow..a dangerous tackle is a longer ban.
Newton got banned for head high on thackray, who admitted he was falling and newton would have got him round chest, but he still ended up in neck area..heck ive sent a player off for head high and player he hit was slipping and nigh on on the floor, but he ended up hitting him in neck with a clenched fist, the player deliberately went into injure by his actions so walked, wont say what ban he got tho cos he gave me some erm unpleasantaries as he walked off.

Precisely what my point was going to be. The fact he hit him in the face was mainly down to Tomkins going down. The challenge itself, regardless of whether it hit in the face, neck or chest, was a shocker. If it HAD hit in the neck (which would have been throat in this case), it could have caused much worse damage.
The contact point is irrelevant. The type of challenge is entirely relevant.

Yup, shocking tackling technique for sure.
Still doesn't warrant some of the reactionary nonsense being spouted off about it.

| Could have easily broke Tomkins jaw and put him out for the rest of the season, there was no need to tackle like that with forearms in the face.
I'm shocked and disgusted McLennan tried to defend Ablett instead of saying 'It's up to the disciplinery commitee to decide'.
Under McLennan Leeds have turned into cheap shot merchants, even the likes of Sinfield and Buderus who I had a lot of respect for for being fair and good players but now they are just as bad as the likes of Bailey for thugging it.

| If I was on the disciplinary the question I would ask Ablett is, when you came in to tackle Tomkins, instead of wrapping him up with your arms as you would normally do, and were in the perfect position to do, why on this occasion did you choose to bunch your arms up ahead of you so that you struck him with the forearms?

Send this question in, I don't think the disciplinary panel would have thought about asking something like this

It didnt go neck level, his right forearm hit him in the jaw, just watched the replay and paused it, clear as day.
