Well it all depends on what deal was in place when he took over Wigan I guess. Or are we at a situation YET AGAIN (Inadequate Muppets!)! Where the RFL didn’t make any ruling about what happens if IL hadn’t relinquished his shares in Quins after two years.
If they just said… ‘so sell within 24 months?’ and he said ‘yea sure’ then there is no legal precedent for any of them to take command.
If IL had an agreement he’d get that 2mill back from Quins when he relinquished his shares… which is sounds clever enough to do so, then someone has to pay him regardless oh who or when!
The RFL should of said ‘If you don’t sell shares in 2 years then you will have to release them all back to the club at no cost’ then we’d have a clear idea of what was going on and may have made him consider taking over Wigan in the first place / look hard for someone to buy up his shares in Quins!

| Why not allow him to stay at Quins as a minority shareholder, taking on an equitable financial burden proportionate to his stake in the club. So he would "only" need to sell 41% of his shares, so looking at finding £1million ish. He could retain his 29% share of the club and invest an equal amount of cash to that which DH puts in, which should make a massive change to the clubs' success.

Tbh it will likely only double then when people call foul no mater what
Best scenario is simply someone has come in after RFL suggested Quins to them and the new investor paid fir ILs shares and start a new from a board point of view!

Ian Lenagan is not allowed by RFL regulations to put any money into any area of Harlequins, despite being the 65% majority shareholder as long as he is involved with Wigan.

| A slightly different spin on the speculation........
IL seems to be portrayed as the villan in much of the comment, but I think the truth could be a whole lot simpler....I don`t know whether IL parted on good terms with DH when he bought Wigan, but during his time at Quins and for the period allowed by the RFL after leaving, he put money into the club and always seemed to have the best interests of the club at heart. He was always approachable and mingled with the fans when he was at Quins and was no different when Wigan came down to play us........I took the opportunity to talk to him about the plight of Quins, his share holding etc and he stated that "he was prepared to give his shares away if the right investor came along who was good for Quins" and "that he had spoken to the RFL before and would be talking to them again regarding the situation".......perhaps that new investor has been found and transfer of IL`s interests needed to be sanctioned by the RFL. This new development may have prompted DH to review the current funding structure of the club (including his own input year on year) and he may have taken the opportunity to address the funding of `development and marketing of the game down south`.......so two separate issues, no IL arm twisting or `forcing` but both linked to the long term future of Quins and development of the game. All of which has been interpreted as `Quins have gone bust` and `Quins are being funded by the RFL again`

Nice an ideal in theory but if this was the case why would Quins go public doubting their future as a club?

Brian Mac was the one doing the talking. Not the best communicator, evem in his moments of rare verbal clarity. The other take was that Brian McDermott thought he was doing the right thing in getting the ownership issue out in the open.
End result is reported here www.google.com/hostednews/ukpres ... yrTXV9TKsg and that Quins have found investment, or have had investment found for them. Think the doubts have not been raised from within and it is still uncertain what exactly has happened with the Lenagan shares and who the new investment is coming from.

| The whole 'going bust' thing was just a ruse to get rid of the not very good, hot-headed Brian Mac. Genius. Now the truth comes out tomorrow. LMS is collateral damage.
