Quote Widneslatic="Widneslatic"I've always thought of the magic weekend as a good idea in theory, but a bit of an anti-climax in reality.
The Challenge Cup idea is a good one, but again, I doubt it will work.
The simple fact is RL fans don't turn out for events like this...7 top-class SL games on 1 weekend SHOULD be selling out Wembley Stadium, nevermind the Millenium Stadium!'"
1 - I defy most fans to sit and watch seven games back to back .... (albeit over 2 days, but you still get the idea)
2 - Given the parochial nature of the sport, most fans of teams hate the other teams playing and most of them don't want to sit around watching teams they hate for the sake of it.
3 - Despite the fact the games are being held 200+ miles away, they're still charging average ticket prices (let's assume you don't want to bother watching someone other than your own team)
4 - It is a miserable place to get to on public transport, especially from Yorkshire and the RFL soon cancelled the idea of the special train when they found the lines being dug up ... So, either go and stay (and be ripped off by hoteliers), spend 6 hours on a coach in each direction or drive and stay sober.
Just a few of the reasons why several long-standing RL fans and myself won't be going ...
