Having originally seen him in the Championship--where at best he was average--I still see no reason to change my opinion of him--at best average. .

watched him ref a LER match (Limoux v FCL if I recall) in january and he was appalling - lost control of the game completely !!! maybe the step down from SL affected his interpretation of the rules at the lower grade ?

agreed but it's difficult to define a 'good ref' when you are trying to be objective - rl fans are a fickle bunch and one bad decision can make a good ref look rubbish - I think it is and always has been a question of consistency and for me Mr Alibert is consistent so far this season.Can't ask for more than that IMO

I honestly think that's why everyone thinks he's hopeless, he looks silly, but he's still the best ref by far. He's the only ref in SL that isn't the centre of attention all the time and lets the players play the game.

Given the treatment I saw dished out to him when refereeing a 2nd division game in France, he was probably keeping one eye on the game and one eye on a safe route to the nearest getaway car. Brave men, the refs in France.

I don't think he's a particually good ref in terms of implementing the letter of the laws of RL. However, he does let the game flow more than Child to leans more to the letter of the law.



If teams play to Thierry's interpretations of the laws then they can get away with holding down, offsides and the odd bit of dirty play more than others. But the game flows.
