| Quote Diracula="Diracula"Well, yes, at this stage of their development the facilities in west Yorkshire are pretty rudimentary, but there's a good chance that in time they might be able to put something reasonable together.
In the meantime, I'm sure the Lancashire teams and fans would be willing to stoically endure the discomfort for the development of the game.'"
Good work, now if only you can get some fans and some players and some money and some facilities actually owned by the clubs then Lancashire will be able to make a meaningful contribution to SL.

I think Halifax would be a good place for such a project. They've got the bare basics already. I mean, Bradford is literally a hole in the ground. You can call it a hole, and they will say yes. It is. Leeds is a derelict that looks like something from Mad Max. The less said about Wheldon Road the better. Am I missing anywhere else? I don't think so. So yeah. A west yorkshire XIII playing out of Halifax might be able to put in a good effort against the rest of us.

Not a bad plan - good location, reasonable existing facilities.

But we can't expect results overnight, we need to give them time to bed in and develop before we can hope for them to compete at the highest levels. These things take time.

But how long are we going to wait? We've given them time. Maybe it's "time" to give the midlands a go instead?

It's possible - after all, that region is much more developed in terms of infrastructure and facilities etc. But we do have the advantage that there's nothing to do in Yorkshire, so we have a captive audience so to speak. And, like PNG, I think the game could do a lot of good there; we could use it to address social issues, promote education and hygene etc.

But for a game which requires so much in television rights what is the point of developing an area where so many don't have one?

While I hesitate somewhat to use the word "charity", there could be a definite element of charity in their inclusion. I feel that we can't view everything in terms of simple commercial rights, including the TV income.
Although, when all the soot-flecked peons of Yorkshire form massed huddles around the aging TV sets to wonder at the moving images which depict their team visiting wondrous distant places, there is a distinct opportunity for local street vendors to hawk simple trinkets and foodstuffs to those gathered there. It could provide a stimulus to the moribund local economy, and encourage some small measure of entrepreneurial spirit.

| I don't think you can expect top quality professional players, who can earn big money, to spend time in such backward places as West Yorkshire simply in the name of developing the game. The security required to protect the top stars from the local people of Castleford and Featherstone (I believe many of the latter live in trees) would outweigh any potential benefits unfortunately.
The only possible solution I can think of is for players representing the Yorkshire XIII to be based in somewhere like Oldham and 'bussed in' on matchdays.

| You know whose fault it is? All this talking back to the referee comes from Sam Tomkins. Players are seeing him do it and it's crept into the game from there.

| If Leeds lose to Hull next week and Salford beat Hull KR, then that makes Round 23's Salford vs Leeds match a lot more interesting as the winner will take 8th.

| It's certainly something to think about, Browny. But would the natives feel any real connection to a team based in such a far away place, with such alien values and behaviours?
I've heard it said that the people of Yorkshire are innately suspicious and frightened of the world outside their borders. Images of their team surrounded by the modern technologies and clothing fashions of the outside world may be too startling for them to accept, possibly even driving them back, terrified, into the dark and rutted undergrowths of the Yorkshire terrain.
That would obviously incur the wrath of the international aid agencies who strive so admirably to bring them medicines and care. All that good work could vanish in an instant if they flee in terror from images of aircraft or trains etc.
