The family are working within the rules as they are now - surely though the rules are wrong and have to be changed forthwith ------ I dont feel that its right at all that a 90+ yo woman who has never left these shores has to pay whilst a chap from abroad - just arrived - can benefit from the system and NOT pay for the same accommodation.

The best thing pensioners can do today is either spend most of their money sharpish, or downsize everything: the home, the car etc. and give the money to their loved ones while they are still mentally and physically fit. Unless they have no problems with paying for their care.

In my oppinion people comeing into the UK shouldnt be allowed to claim State benefits for the first 5 years, that would stop the undoubted abuse of the system that some of the less scrupulous immigrants currently endugle in.

I agree 100% , that is the answer the government should adopt, you have to be resident for 5 years or they should look at say " a paupers benifit" to give to anyone coming to this country for the 1st 5 years which would be just a very basic living allowance or food vouchers so they didn't starve. Other than that, they have to work for anything else.

I have a relation who came to the UK from Australia in 1993 to get married and he immediately obtained work, worked for 23 months and was made redundant, he visited the local Job Centre who took two weeks to arrange an interview at which time he was told that he was not entitled to any unemployment benefit and that he would have to apply to Australia for some money.



By the time the same job centre had arranged for another interview he had already got another job and the people who set the criteria where ordinary people are never entitled to anything whilst other classes can get everything, are the same people who have been claiming more expenses each year than ordinary folk earn in wages and salaries.



The whole system in the UK stinks and it is the political classes/elite that Flash Gordon & Cuddly Blair have created who are totally responsible for all the problems that we have in society at this time.



We now have a Deputy Leader of the Labour Party who has not been elected and a Minister For Europe who is possibly in receipt of more pensions than many a small town and whose family have made the EU a money pit.

I don't know on that score as it is much harder to police than with people entering the country and not entitled to benefits at all.



Possibly you say anyone claiming beenfits has to pass a more rigerous qaulification process and those physically fit to work do some form of community service to earn extra as we should cut there allowance down to the bare minimum. Say give someone £20 per week and then for every 8 hour days of community servicethey do they earn another £15 and then very soon they would I suspect see that toiling all day for that amount is not as a ppealing as actually earning a proper wage for he same endevour.

) However I lived on Weaste lane at that point but was residing elsewhere and it later turned out that I was never registered on either address so really it proves nothing as thousands could have done the same, and if they were illegals, dole-ites or someone who wanted to keep a low profile it was possible to do so. And can I add that I don't think the problem here is colour it's having the right to be in the UK.



And as an aside, we live in a democracy and as such anyone (well virtually anyone) can set up a party or become an independent and run for election, and anyone can vote for them and until that's illegal then I'm afraid BNP or anyone else can put themselves forward, it's a case of we've made our bed....

The census it not really a good way of counting the population, when Thatcher brought in the Poll tax thousands of people just disappeared so they would not have to pay it.

...is probably not right or fair. but the issue is with the system and it has nothing to do with race. People should ask themesleves what the BNP would do about the system? Would the BNP propose a new system for teh allocation of residential casre to people? If they'd abolish the system described, who would care for any old person? I'f they'd change the eligibility requirements (which are equally 'unfair' for a whole host of benefits as Chico explained), how would they pay for the costs? What is the BNP policy on these issues? Are they going to raise taxes? Are you saying your happy to vote for higher taxes?



These are substantive 'real' issues that the general population is, frankly, to lazy to think through....



too many people jump (without any substance) to associating a fault in the system to blaming some element of society. this, i'm sorry to say to all those who have done that in this thread, is precisely what happened in 1930s Germany - hyper-inflation and high unemployment was 'blamed' by Hitler on the Jews (and anyone else not 'German' enough) even though there was no actual connection. and there is no connection between the faults of this system (or the country so to speak) now and who just happen people to be 'different' in some way.
