Quote lefty goldblatt="lefty goldblatt"From memory, without looking at records, so I'm unsure on scores, we DID NOT end the season on a high.
Yes, we scraped a win against an average Bradford side, and then punched above our weight against Leeds (one great performance), but the rest of it was shambolic at best, throwing away a substantial lead against HKR in the last 10 mins, getting WALLOPED v Cas and Catalans. The next season we self destructed away at Stains, and the rest of his tenure as boss was, at best, PATHETIC
Add to this, when Smith was away on international duty, and Lowes stood in, we were deafeated comfortably at home by (iirc) an average Bradford side.
Well rid of, imo.
Out of his depth.
Even Salford (who at times, have had a revolving door where coaches are concerned) didn't even take him on as Head Coach after Karl Harrison was sacked. A number two (stop sing at the back) at best.'"
He had a decent start as Head Coach but after the honeymoon the apathy factor struck again with some players. The only excellent performance under Jimmy was Leeds at home when Mitchell ran in the corner from 40 out. That was the peak and after that it went steadily downhill. Our performance in the last few games of 08 should have set alarm bells ringing at the club before he got our pre-season in 09 so seriously wrong with some of the players in round 1 not having played a single minute of pre-season competition. He should have paid the penalty for that with his job after our terrible start but clung on somehow, (probably TS' decision?). I'm not bothered he's gone but personally I would have liked to see Richard Marshall or another British coach replace him.
