Quote scubes="scubes"One thing puzzles me having looked at the Spectator Survey, and that is despite what I read on the message board and the general perception, according to the survey, on average, Sunday had lower attendances, than Fridays, Thursday having the highest, there is even a little graph to demonstrate it.
It is also interesting to note that just over 3/4 of people completing the survey prefered Sundays, but the attendance figures just don't support it.
I can see this one rumbling on for some time, and just for clarification, I'm also one of those people that prefer Sundays, but I haven't been a naysayer about Fridays, I believe the club has to do what it has to do to keep going forward and if that if Friday as well as Sunday games, so be it.'"
Does seem strange and I'm not sure how the survey comes to that conclusion.
Between 2006 and 2011 when the data is collected what Fri night games have we played in the league as I can't remember any ?
So I wonder is the data in the survey classing the Bank Holiday Friday fixtures as higher averages or the TV games moved to Thursdays (which usually see's our most attractive fixture played/moved).
For me its only when you do like for like league fixtures that you get a true picture so roughly we probably lost around £18,000 in gate money from the attendance drop in 3 like for like fixtures last season from the season previous with a same win/loss ratio than the previous season (2 fixtures moved Sunday to Friday and 1 moved Thursday to Friday).
I think the move to Sunday will hopefully start to halt our small attendance slide but equally its not just Fridays that cost us to lose fans last season, lots of things out of the clubs control have happened with many fans fed up with how RL has been run.
The club will need to recognise that element of (pretty loyal) fans that have left and try and get them back as missing the RL 'fix' will bite some of them but just as important we need to get much needed new and young support in.
Equally as much talk next season focussing on purely our league, our players and on field events perhaps not focus on the I BeLeighve/ SL plans as much - have it in the background as its our ultimate goal but lets get the groundwork right first and ensure we are the best Championship club on & off the park next season with a increase in support that with playing on a choosen 'match day' can hopefully help us achieve.
