The rugby papers report Ted saying talks have taken place between the clubs and there is no apparent complaint from trin to the RFL. You are another wakey poster making up rubbish.

| Quote deeHell="deeHell"I get the impression that some Huddersfield fans are that delusional that they actually believe that we are letting him go for nothing! He his a very important player and could be the difference between a play off place or not. If you want him you'll have to pay for him it's that simple. What ever you offer it will after be an offer that is beneficial to Wakey. Ted Richardson is a very shrewd man uncle Ken won't get the better of him in that department!'"
But Brough is out of contract at the end of the season at which point his marketable value is zero. So why do so many Wakefield fans think they are in a strong negotiating position. Either Danny Brough wants to join Huddersfield or he doesn't. If he doesn't it don't matter a tinker's cuss what we are willing to offer for him, he will turn us down. By this stage of his contract his agent will have been in touch with every club in Superleague getting a feel for what offers are out there. If Huddersfield are the best bet then we could sign him in 6 months time for diddly-squat. Wakefield therefore are stuck in the position of getting nothing in 6 months time or >nothing for him now. They haven't got a very strong starting position when it comes to negotiating. No doubt a fee will be involved but it won't be a massive one and will probably factor into it the value to Wakefield on the savings on Brough's remaining contract.

| Quote Code13="Code13"Biggest question is...do we need him. Answer is no, we dont. Why would we pay for him now? when he could sit on the sidelines at wakey and cost them money.
[No you dont need him atm, but by paying for him now "oops sorry you dont pay fees do you" it will save missing out on him at the end of the season when the big clubs start bidding with his agent
The benefit Wakey get is rid of a player that sees no future with them who wont really want to play until the last 3 or 4 rounds when his contract is up for grabs for free
[The benefit Wakey now get is that they get rid of a player who no longer wants to play for then because he has had his head turned by by a man with too much money what wants to buy success
the benefit the giants get is, er, not a lot. A trouble making player with a good kicking game...
[The benefit the giants get is, er better than anything you have ask Drew thats why he wanted to come back to you, he was just a makeweight when Danny played. As for a troublemaker he will be what you want him to be for the money uncle Ken will be paying him
btw dont you and gahn and a few others feel a tad embarrassed with Broughy coming after what you all said, what was it NO WAY or something like that, you could of course always deny it and say you were all misquoted

I think we are in a stronger position because we have him and you want him. We can just say no and we lose nothing, as he would go anyway at the end of the year, but we would have him until then. You are in a weaker position because if you wait you might get in a bidding war with another club, or not get him at all, and so I think we have the stronger negotiating chip. We aren't trying to off-load him, you are trying to buy him, and thats the crux of it, and that's why we are in a slightly stronger position.

| What if he has already signed a contract for 2010?
Perhaps Wakefield approached us with a view to making a small amount on a player they now feel is rocking the boat at Wakefield. Who's in the 'strong position' then?

I don't think they can this early in the season.

Roll that turd in glitter, son! Roll!
ATEOTD none of this matters. Whatever happens we'll never know the full story and both sides will claim they got th ebetter deal. Indeed both sides will believe it or any potential deal wouldn't have gone ahead, if it does go ahead.
One thing is however for sure and that is the answer to the real question posed in this thread is undoubtedly chips.

But you're assuming that we are desperate to sign him right at this moment. We can have him for nothing at the end of the season. The bidding war is a straw man argument as Brough's agent will already know exactly what sort of offers his client will recieve at that point. If there is the potential of a better offer then he won't accept our offer at all. The clubs are both irrelevant in all this the only party in a strong position is Danny Brough and his agent. Of course the deal will have to be in Wakefield's best interests and I'm not suggesting Wakefield will give him away, they would be daft to do so, but to suggest they have a strong negotiating position is simply not true.

That's an interesting idea. Get on the blower to Ted and tell him to put that order for those suits on the backburner!
