I'm Captain Pessimistic this week, too many disappointments since 2000 when I was convinced we would (and should) have won easily.'"
Still stunned how we didn't win that year, but that's what finals are like. They're like a lottery. It's whoever turns up on the day & can rise to the occasion. Players shouldn't play the occasion. It's the team that sticks to their game plan & doesn't go for the superman plays that usually ends up coming away with victory.
It will be interesting to see how a Mike Maguire coached side plays in finals. He's had plenty of experience in these occasions & has even had Craig Bellamy staying with him for the last week. So much experience & expertise that I hope will filter down to the players. We're a young squad, but we have a nice blend of experience too. Pat Richards, Martin Gleeson, Paul Deacon, Stuart Fielden and Sean O'loughlin etc have all played in big matches. Paul Deacon's influence will be massive IMO.
