The second tackle would have been easy for Sinfield to get out of, just roll out of the way and no problem....

If you've ever played the game you'll know how easy it is to clamp the armof the tackler to make it look like holding down. If the tackler struggles it looks like he's starting something, if he doesn't then it looks like he is not rolling away.
It's the opposite of holding down in the tackle. Not a big issue - it's just pushing it to see how much you can get away with. It's always gone on and sometimes it's penalised, sometimes like tonight you get away with it. |

And if you'd played the game to, you'd know a ref won't do anything about it, and will tell you to not be so bloody stupid to put your arm in that position. Ganson did exactly that in a previous game. It normally only happens when you're trying to interfere with the ball carrying arm on the inside, if you just wrap clamp it doesn't happen. Defenders fault for either pure stupidity, or trying his own gamesmanship and getting beaten at it. |

Sam is using the arm to hold down the defender and win a pen. It's pretty obvious he does that.
Why such a great player like sam tomkins feels the need to try this niggly stuff is unreal. He's a top class player and should't get involved. |

It's used as a response to the defenders arm slipping in and trying to dislodge the ball. Biggest case of pot+kettle argument i've ever seen, and anybody whinging about it needs to get a bloody grip a try playing the game, it's not all luvs and cuddles and queensberry bloody rules on either side. |

Tomkins isnt actually breaking any rules by doing this is he? As Mr Ganson has said in previous matches to players, dont put your hand there then! Its not rocket science. To be held down you have to try and get up at least and on neither occasion did the Leeds players in question do that.
