Although I would have loved him at Wigan that’s excellent news and I’m glad to hear he’s got his foot on the coaching ladder.
You couldn’t have honestly met a nicer guy off the pitch imo and a true great of the game.
Hampo it is then

Bringing in another ex-player would only bring the same problems with it. Bring in a sports science professional not somebody who decided to become a conditioner when he finished playing. This was the problem with Forshaw he had no pedigree.

| Quote OJ="OJ"I was just about to say that we all should know better than to believe every word that is written in newspapers but DaveO has said more or less the same thing first.
Press and media outlets will always sensationalise bits of news just to make them more interesting or appealing. I think both IL and BN have conducted themselves with dignity at a time when it was obviously difficult for both of them. None of us will agree 100% with everything that is done at the club all the time and it is no use talking about what should or shouldn't have happened - it's gone and we have a new coach - let's look forward to what he may achieve with us and move on.'"
No, BN has come out of this with Dignity, not IL, who just seems to make himself look a bigger idiot every time he opens his mouth.
What will todays daily leneghan gaffe be?

That is exactly what is going on here and if anyone has an issue with IL or is a great fan of BN they may well take the headline as the truth when in fact the Mirror made it up.

| To be fair as you all know have praised Brian Noble for his efforts in taking Wigan "the club" in the right direction, and defended him.
But IL is correct if in his opinion some of the players are not fit enough the onus rests on the read coach. It maybe Forshaws job but it was nobles responsibility.
Noble has always stayed loyal to his players and staff, that maybe is to his own detriment.

It is the jobs for the boys mentality or surrounding themselves with poor support staff that i feel is what has contributed to many coaches downfall including Noble.
Speaking from experience I was working inside a club whose coach was nominated for coach of the year, got them in the playoffs and had a fantastic season, 2 of his support staff left including the conditioner and he brought in someone who was in my opinion a joke in that capacity, before the end of the next season he had gone from a top coach being banded about as a GB coach to unemployed, now back in the game in the National Leagues.
A coach must surround themselves with top quality staff. John Kear is the master at it.
In my opinion Maguire has to bring someone with him to condition the team someone he already knows of, and rates, anything else would be a major risk on his part, personally not convinced by Hampson either, were he not an ex Wigan player i doubt there would be any call for him.
We as a club have to get out of this jobs for the boys mentality, and to be fair it looks like we have.

| To be fair to IL, he is correct.
The papers obviously put their own spin on things and wasn't it The Mirror who quoted IL at a fans forum last year and put the comment in completely the wrong context? Can't remember it exactly.
I don't like the idea that there has been some friction between IL and Noble but if there has then it's been done now and there's nothing we can do. IL did thank Noble, obviously, in the press release and he's been quoted in the papers as doing so. But there is simply no sentiment in business.

I never understand a jobs for the boys mentality. I have seen it in the places i have worked, and it has never ever been a success.
Now there is a difference in bringing good people with you, which happens in my field, but in a job where results count so much as they do in sports, why wouldnt you surround yourself with the people who can make you look good?
