| Real ale suppers amongst you might want to try my mate's pub, The Turk's Head. It's not all that near the ground, though, being about a mile out of the town centre on North Road, but it's worth a visit early doors, with plenty pubs between it and the ground.

| Basically there are numerous places to choose from. I hear the Imperial's alright so long as you enjoy getting smashed on a night out.

| How far is the new ground from the centre? Closer then Knowsley road?
I'm thinking of venturing in on the train.

| From the station 15 minutes tops if you go the slower way over the nice new bridge, but that's just cause you are walking at the pace of the slowest group.

I would check if the trains are running on good friday into St.helens central as its been replacement bus service for a while due to engineering works while they fit overhead electric cabling between Huyton and Wigan.
This work will ultimately allow high speed electric trains to run from Liverpool via st.Helens and Wigan and then upto Preston and Scotland. Rather than as now having to make do with those slow smelly Pacer and Sprinter diesel trains.
Should make for more regular and faster train journeys between St.Helens and Wigan when finished in 2014
As for pubs, you have the whole town centre to go for. The Glass house will no doubt be rammed, so i would avoid that.
The George is worth a visit but will also be rammed.
The Counting House is a big pub with big screens only 10 mins from the ground. serves decent beer including real ale.
The Running horses is a Lloyds no1 bar and is big
Further afield real ale fans may like to try the Old England. Not as far as the Turks head to walk from only 15 mins from
the ground. You can get beer from £1.30 a pint

Quite a few of us Saints now supping pre matches in The Phoenix, near the Chapel House car dealership. Its a CAMRA pub. Usually have half a dozen or so cask ales on and cheap too. A leisurely 10 min stroll to Langtree Park. Dont bring too many in though its nice and easy to get served !! ( unlike the Glass House which is now bedlam on match days with the usual lack of staff in Spoons establishments.) They do have Sky Sports too for the Hull derby.
