For me I'd happily quit a 100-200k a year job in Union or whatever for a 50k or so job at Wigan so I suspect that for someone like Edwards who is Wigan through and through he'd be even more willing.



I understand I've probably overexagerated both of those figures but still.

Already been said, some jobs have to be advertised openly to give ALL people a fair chance, to avoid claims of preference or prejudice before offering the job. Employers have to be so careful that they can prove the person they employ is justifiably the right person for the job.

as the coaching staff don't count on the salary cap, I think it's a good idea to invest some of the additional income we must be generating nowadays in employing additional coaching staff. it's one area that help the club move forward.

i think it something to do with legalities.........you have to advertise a job, even when the employers know whos already got it.

Do we have to? Did we advertise for the head coaching job? I very much doubt you have to advertise. Maybe Wigan want to see if someone applies who isn't on their radar - nothing wrong with that.

it's good practice to advertise, it helps avoid discrimination claims, but I don't think there's actually a legal requirement to advertise. Happy to be proved wrong if you can cite the legislation, regulation or court decision.

Meanwhile, chairman Ian Lenagan has refused to clarify the ongoing uncertainty over the coaching position at Wigan.



The seemingly inevitable appointment of assistant Shaun Wane as Maguire’s successor has dragged on for months, with no official confirmation from the club.



Yesterday the Warriors ran adverts in the rugby league trade press seeking an assistant coach – which appeared to suggest Wane’s appointment as head coach might be imminent.



However, the adverts were worded that they were seeking an “additional assistant coach”, which only muddied the waters further, particularly as it is unclear whether half-back Paul Deacon will retire this year and take up a coaching position or play on another 12 months.
