| Quote FearTheVee="FearTheVee"I disagree - the conditioner tells him what to do but if he doesn't do it - it's up to the coach to drop him until he does IMO.
The coach is the boss at the end of the day and if he keeps picking him despite him ignoring the conditioner, then he completely undermines the conditioner and makes his job impossible.'"
From my experience the coach should and does stay well out of the conditioning coaches way as they simply do not have the knowledge to contribute other than advice him on where they want to work on an individual player.
A coach is a coach and a Conditioning Coach is responsible for the condition of the players, while i agree ultimatley the technical coach has the final say on if a player is selected of not, all coaches are responsible for brining the best out of there players, if a coach is unable to motivate a player then it is as much the coaches failing if not more so than the players who are in effect the student.
Each player is different and should be treated as such and it is up to a coach to use his coach education, including psychology to find what angle he needs to get an athlete performing in the gym.
I have to say although personally not working with Pryce I was at Gloucester when he was there and got to observe his training and conditioning on a few occasions and he was a beast one of the top in the squad, he comes to Wigan and suddenly according to your info becomes lazy? What is the reason for this change in attitude? If it is the case as reported you would have to highlight the coaching of the conditioning and failing to motivate the lad by whatever means necessary.

| Quote FearTheVee="FearTheVee"But unless he lied about his qualifications in getting the job, which Feka clearly didn't (but a doctor or rocket scientist clearly would have to) then it's your own fault for hiring him.
He can perform his job. He's just sh*te at it, but then he was already overweight when you signed him so not sure what your point is.
He would never be in breach of contract for not being at his physical peak.
'"
And how will it be if he puts another stone on? And another stone? And another stone? I mean, he's already unfit to do the job, but at what point does it move from being a case of "he's not in peak condition" to a case of "he's a fat slob who only a silly fantasist would describe as a professional athlete"? And what do his employers do then?
Meanwhile, you continue to kid yourself with daft anti-Wigan propaganda that this is all our fault because we originally bought a lemon (who, by the way, we had to outbid you lot to sign).
The reality is that he wasn't always this unfit (and even now I'd have him over that cardboard tank you've got), even when he was playing for us, and certainly not when he was in Aus. It's partly the fault of the two Wigan coaches he's played under, who seem to have stood by doing nothing while he's got heavier and heavier. But if my boss told me to get on with an essential aspect of my job, and my attitude was basically "no, I can't be bothered doing that bit any more because it's too much hassle", I'd expect to be in trouble.
As for the doctor / scientist bit, Feka could do the job when he started. But since then he's made minimal effort to keep up the necessary work. So the analogy stands.
My original point, which you do get despite pretending you don't (whereas the other fella was just plain thick) is that nothing the club have done so far - whether it be threatening to fine him about his weight, actually fining him about his weight, putting him on extra training routines, etc - seems to be working. Maybe, now that's it's finally cost us a very important match, it's time to get really tough.

| Quote Rilo="Rilo"Spot on - it's Feka's job to be fit and he's nowhere near that at the moment. Pryce as well.
I'm not saying I want an 80 minute Feka, but he's got to do more than he does at the moment.'"
It's not even a case of wanting Feka to do more minutes anymore-that ship has long sailed unfortunatly but all we want now is for him to be able to do his job during his 30 or so minutes on the field.
It's sad that he's not actually fit enough to preform for his 30 minute spells anymore.

I do not think it was his fitness that was exposed, he only played for 10 minutes first half as his lack of mobility was being exposed and we had no option but to bring him off.
As I said earlier i believe his "fitness" has improved of late he seemed to be capable of more minutes but his rugby specific conditioning in my opinion has payed the price.

That's not my point at all. My point is if you buy an overweight impact prop, you get an overweight impact prop and you can't say he is in breach of contract for continuing to be overweight.
Jeez, we signed Michael Smith!!

Not my info mate, I haven't a scooby doo how well Pryce trains, or Feka for that matter.

No?'"
Dunno really, but severely doubt it given the subjective nature of "performance" in sport.
Feka could, I'm sure, point to other players in the league with less impact, so how can you sack him for breach of contract unless his contract says he has to be under a certain weight or make a certain number of metres per game etc, which of course it won't.
If he stops turning up for training etc, sure. But I very much doubt he's as stupid as he is fat
