Defo straight red imo. The fact he raises the elbow makes it straight red. Im not sure he intentionally goes for the elbow as i think he meant to bounce him off with his forearm to the chest and got it wrong.



Intention or not, he catches him on chin with elbow/foremarm which is off the ball so its got to be red.



With his past record, i imagine his season is over.

I can't see the ban being that long, especially as he was sent off rather than called up. No complaints about the red from me though.

Whilst I would agree incidents can look worse in slow motion, it is the positioning of his arm that makes me think this was deliberate rather than uncontrolled and careless. Bending the arm to such a degree that the point of the elbow is the first point of contact with the other player isn't accidental or careless, it's a deliberate attempt to cause serious injury.

And the knee to the head?

I didn't like the look of it.

However, I do think is was a genuine desperate attempt to prevent a try. I don't think it was premeditated and there simply wasn't time to do it deliberately.

However, I think there is a discussion needed about how to prevent contact with the head when a player's head is so close to the ground when the initial contact is made.

Just what I think.

I saw Ben Flower lead with the point of his elbow into the head of a player without the ball in a vulnerable position. I don't think it is normal to lead with the point of the elbow when charging down a kick and therefore it was deliberate.
