For me it’s his inconsistency.
We had field position, possession and were on the front foot in that first half and offered nothing.
I appreciate we made errors too which stalked our momentum but I can’t remember us once throwing shape at them.
Lino for me is a very good back up option but it’s too often rocks rather than diamonds.
Bring in a natural quality 6 and I think we improve significantly next year with Trueman at 7 and Lino back up.
Sorry I meant to reply to this.I don't think I understand what you mean by a natural 6.
Can you give me an example as I would say Trueman is a natural 6.
Yes no problem.
The game is changing again. We are now seeing a period where teams with a defined 7 and 6 are starting to make an impact.
It’s cyclical sometimes “split halves” are the system.
You look at Wigan they have an organised at 7 and a strike running threat at 6. Most NRL teams are following the same model where 6 and 7 are now becoming very separate roles.
Trueman for me doesn’t offer the running threat and is a highbred of the 2 he’s played plenty of 7 over the years at Cas and his organising and game management is his best asset. He doesn’t have the pace he once had.
A good 7 gets his hands on the ball at first man either side of the ruck with the 6 usually stood wider as second man providing the link to the full back drifting round the back to create the extra man or looking to exploit edge defence ball in hand.
Our most successful 6 & 7 in recent years have been Finn and Miller where they had 1 very good year with Finn guiding us round the park and Miller focusing on the 6 role of playing wider using his pace as a runner and to exploit the edge defenders. We had Williams as cover who again was a bit of a highbred 6/7 covering both roles very well.
We have 3 specialist organisers in the squad that I would class as out and out 7s.
Trueman a bit like Williams at Wire can play both.
I just feel that specialist strike 6 who can focus on looking at exploiting the edges whilst the 7 and 9 moves us round the park would improve us significantly.
The 6 obviously has organisational responsibilities however less so than the 7 and offers a more free role.
KR are the same although Lewis wears the 7 as the strike threat and May the 6 as more of an organiser.
It’s the reason why Smith gets the 7 shirt for England over Lewis, although the way Smith is playing at the moment that may change this year.
Lewis and Williams are the more natural running threats and up until this year Smith was by far the best game managing 7 in SL. He’s not as good a player as Lewis but he does the role better than Lewis.
