Sorry if this is the same/similar to another post, but do we need to look at a serious shift around in the forwards? I didn't see the Wigan game but I was at the Cas game n watched the London game on sky and we just can't make enough metres from our defensive sets to put ourselves in any real position of entering the game. We seem to be finishing our sets on our own 30m line far to often yet other teams manage to stroll 40 or 50m straight down the middle the field without a problem.
From watching the Catalans game I firmly believe our backs are more than capable of creating chances and scoring points, but unless we have the forwards pack to play territory rugby and put us in a position to play territory rugby then we'll have no chance of scoring points this year.
We could benefit massively from getting rid of most of our props/back rows and bringing in some real nasty =#FF0000 EDIT up front to give us a chance of playing rugby in the opposition half. I also think that Danny Washbrook is not bringing enough to the forwards as we don't have the chance to utilise a ball playing orientated loose as we are always spending 5 tackles trying to get out of our own half, I think a loose more geared towards driving the hard yards would beneifit us massively at the minute
Also, as much I was never in favour of taking on Richard Agar, I don't think there's much a coach can do to change the situation we are in, unless there are 4 lads sat in the reserves that are good enough to get a chance.

| We do look like a side lacking power and size in the forwards. I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that we are getting pinned in our own 20 and finding it difficult to get out by runs alone. Cas simply bullied us in the last half hour of Good Friday's game.

| there might be a lack of experience in running against Superleague opposition as well. Cas managed to 7-8m even when running at our markers, as far as I'm aware that tactic is aimed at wearing players out at the expense of making metres, yet somehow they managed to make decent gains.

| Think we certainly need to tidy it up around the rook and defend better in that area. Teams that seem to keep it tight and play through that area seem to make far too much yardage, far too easily.

Funny how people see things different, i'd say the forwards have more often than not held there own, its the backs that have been letting in the tries. I agree though that a more experienced prop would be a good addition. As would 2 centres who can draw a man and pass to the winger, wingers who can take a high ball and halfbacks who take the line on, have the ability to kick into space or try something different a la Wood.

| You mean the Danny Washbrook that was in the OPTA team of the year after round 8?

| I think Washbrook has been one of our most consistent performers so far.
I agree with the OP to an extent, we are clearly lacking up front not only in attack but also in defence. In attack this is shown when we cant get out of our 30, and in defence when we cannot put the player in posession down. I have lost track of the number of times we have had 2 or 3 in the tackle and the attacker is still stood up. We dont have a chance of "winning the ground" as they dont get there.

Apologies for the less than intelligent part about Washbrook. I wasn't meaning to say he's not good enough. I just don't think it makes tactical sense to have a ball playing loose rather than a yard gainer when our forwards can't really make up the yards on their own as it is. I understand he is doing his bit.

More or less a new side!
I think we need a big prop. I thought Sykes went well vs Cas and I would replace Mellars with Collis when he's back fit.
Mellars has been a real let down for me so far this season, hope he can turn it around soon.

| Front Row - Think Amor & Raleigh have been ok but the other 3 'props' (Wilkes, Southern & Johnson) have been inconsistent in recent weeks lacking real punch. Matt James needs to be introduced who is a genuine prop with Super League experience. Need to buy another prop also.
Hooker - Ellis needs more game time and we need to use Aiton at loose forward/second row. Wood needs to be used more for his utility value & impact from bench whereever the team is lacking on the day against the opposition (hooker/stand off/scrum half)
Our second row (Kirmond & Lauititi) are up to scratch but we need the latters impact from the bench and should use either Trout, Walshaw or Mariano to start with Kirmond, decision to be based on their current form.
Think Washbrook is doing ok.
Backs - Mellars to be dropped when Collis is fit to partner Sykes as no speed & ineffective,he's over 16 stone try him at second row?. Rest are ok but lacking confidence due to the pressure of no go forward from most of the pack who are either bust up or burnt out.
