Anyone think Saints could do with signing Penny and add some real pace into the team?

Surely it is not beyond the realms of a good coaching set up to cure the "liabilities".

Penny has all the attacking capabilities he needs to be a GREAT winger, however, in defence he lacks experience due to the lateness he got into the game and I hope in a few years time he will come good.



It sad that people bag him so much, he's a young inexperienced lad and needs help to become somethign impressive, I hope he does move up as we are short of good top class wingers in this country.

but with a background in basketball, he should have great ball handling skills, it should be the best part of his game

I feel sorry for Penny. He came onto the game with a bang, scoring some of the best tries of that season.



He was the "new Offiah"

His confidence was shot. Like Sadfish says the raw talent is there and maybe a move would do him good. He is still young enough IMO to make a top class winger if he gets the right coaching and a good centre with him.

The raw spped and agility he has could make an outstanding finisher, the try he scored passed Saints - not the length of the field one, the one down the stand side was an outstanding bit of work. In relatively confined space his pace took him passed 2 or 3 good defenders to score a fabulous try something Saints haven't had the option to do for a good while.



Yes he has defensive problems but considering he didn't start the game as a kid of 6, 7 or 8 like most players do these days it was always going to be difficult to learn the basics when Cullen threw him in right at the deep end.



Do the club have any outstanding wing prospects in our academy? Armstrong is a decent prospect but certainly doesn't look to have the pace to go the length of the field against anyone. Potential young wingers for 2010 Foster / Lomax / Bradbury are all destined to play in other positions.



If Penny wasn't expensive I would happily have him as a bit of a project at Saints but wouldn't expect him in the first team for 12-18 months while he learns the finer points of the defensive side of the game and then gradually introduce him so his confidence isn't obliterated due to one bad game
