So after a week of controversy over some of last weekend's "tackles" what do we make of Scruton on O'Brien today? My opinion:

There is no doubt it was late, O'Brien had passed the ball and it was in the next player's hands before he was hit, so it was not borderline.

The first contact was by Scruton's shoulder and it was with O'Brien's head.

I don't think it was an intentional head-shot.

Discuss.

A bit late and maybe should have been a penalty but nowt wrong with the contact.

Bearing in mind this is also a late off-the-ball tackle how many games should he be looking at?

I await the Leeds & Wakefield fans making pleas to ban Scruton for the sake of player protection which they seemed to be big on last week.

Well i made no comment on "that tackle" last week so i won't pass comment on this one.

You sound like someone who's had a bad day.

It should have been a penalty all day long and some players, in the past have been binned for less.

A cheap shot on the Cas playmaker.

The video ref didn't even deem it worthy of a penalty.

No neither did I.

Last week...talented young playmaker taken out of the game by a late shoulder charge by a prop forward.



This week...talented young playmaker taken out of the game (for about 50 minutes)by a late shoulder charge by a prop forward.



Coincidence? or are players taking it on themseves to do it or worse still are coaches sending them out with instructions to clatter playmakers?



The incident wouldn't have effected the result, but incidents like the above could give youngsters who play the game but who are slight in stature food for thought.



Isn't the figures of people playing the game dropping?

this sort of thing has been happening for at least the last 40 yrs or more,it will always happen when you get a little but good halfback so lets get on with the game

Deacon used to be taken out by big fellas all the time, especially after Big Joe (who used to position himself in the way) retired.

I assume by that comment you're on about con mikas clash of heads with kyle amor. Speaking as a wakefield fan, I dont think any of us called for Mika to be banned. We all saw the incident as a accidental clash of heads...As everyone did apart from Stevo on fulltime where he said Mika should have been sent off. Each to their own opinion.



As for scruton. for me, the tackle was just a tad on the late side, but as phil clarke pointed out, in real time/at full speed its very difficult for scruton to pull out. Personally im undecided on that. As for the point of contact, it was on obriens shoulder and it was the impact and element of surprise which caused obriens neck to jolt.
