The C.C. game v H.K.R. this Friday allows us to carry the "legend" theme to someone else. We are counting the 1-13, appropriate for league games to Legends, but this game allows us to honour a "Legend Coach". The coach to take the Legend shirt is Les Bettinson, he signed for Salford in 1957 & was on the playing staff up to 1969 & went on to make 317 appearances for the club.

Les became assistant coach to Cliff Evans until he retired due to ill health, & Les took over as head coach in 1973. He represented Cumberland & also went on to coach the G.B team.

After resigning from the Salford coaching role, he was offered & accepted a place on the board of directors.

Les was voted on to the R.L. council & subsequently in 1988/89 he was made President of the R.L.

Les is now in his 54th year association with Salford R.L club & the panel felt he was more than deserving of the accolade.

Another guest on the evening will be Bev Risman, who is presently the President of the R.L. council & as you all are aware, the son of the late great Gus Risman, & who better to present Les Bettinson with his "Legend shirt".

Please give them both a big Salford welcome.

Are these still being presented before the match Shirl?

I love this whole legends idea.... but I'm not quite sure enough of a deal is being made of it.... I'd like to have seen each legend have their name pained onto the pitch with their shirt number for each game. Would love to see perhaps all 13 legends pained into the 'in goal' area for the last game.

I totally agree, I have not seen one legend yet and I am in the ground a good hour before kick-off, other clubs seem able to do the legends stuff a lot better than us, ours appear as half hearted can't be d approach, hopefully in the new stadium the pre and half time periods will offer more than the amatuer stuff we get now.

Did Rissy go on the board late on?

I haven't met anyone who has been happy with the presentation of the legends yet. It is ridiculous! we bring these legends back to a half empty ground before kick off when everyone is either enroute, queuing outside or in the club and present them in the middle of the teams warming up and the dancing girls prancing about.



DO IT AT HALF TIME WITH NOTHING ELSE GOING ON!!!! MAKE THE FLAMES WAIT!!!!! THESE GUYS ARE WHAT MADE THE CLUB GREAT NOT CHEERLEADERS!!!!



Please will someone from the club take notice of what the fans are saying on this one before it is too late!
