Quote Sky Sports have already reserved Friday and Saturday evening slots for next week’s games.
=#BF0000And if the broadcaster would not allow Wigan to play on the Sunday – should they lose to Saints – then Whelan is prepared to let the Challenge Cup winners take to the field on the Friday.
In a pledge that will be warmly received by Warriors followers, he told the Evening Post: “I want Wigan to play at home – we don’t want Wigan to play elsewhere, at Widnes or any other ground.
“The ground is in super condition at present, and if they have to play next Friday, Ian (Lenagan, Warriors chairman) has guaranteed me Wigan will pick up the cost of cleaning the ground and making it ready for a Premier League match the following day.
“He’s a man of his word and so, if we have to do it, we’re both determined that Wigan will play at the DW.
“Hopefully we’ll beat Saints and it won’t be an issue, but if we don’t we’ll come to an agreement.”'"

| Excellent.
Hopefully it won't come to that, but I wasn't expecting Whelan to be so magnanimous.

| As far as I'm concerned this would set a precedent for any future rugby on Friday/ football on Saturday issues.

| What if Warrington loose as well, they would get Friday and not Wigan.

The day you play isn't based on positions if it suits The RFL/Sky - e.g. Catalans always get the Saturday game if at home in the play-offs.
So if Wigan and the Dire both lose this weekend, we'll be Friday and they'll be Saturday.

| Father Jack should have done this 4 years ago, ah but then he thought the super blues were set for world domination and Millions of pounds would be flowing into the owd duffers pocket. How wrong he was! Dont be fooled into thinking hes doing this out of the goodness of his heart due to the fact he doesn't have one.

| So he wants Wigan to play at home but only if we pay for all the turn-around costs? Generous man.

| The way I see it is this:
On one hand it's great that we have made progress and that Uncle Dave has finally seen some sense.
On the other I don't understand why he has agreed to this only on the basis that IL will pay for the cleaning costs in time for the soccer game to go ahead. I'm sure if we played on the Sunday AFTER a Latics match then it would be the stadium company who would foot the bill (not WAFC themselves)?

| We've already paid our lease for the ground which I presume includes fees for cleaning etc so why does he want more?
Good move though

| He's trying to improve his image amongst rugby fans. Some fools will probably by it as well.
