Your lad is hardly a dwarf, but I get your point.
PP highlights a real issue in the British game. We simply don’t produce players of that freakish size in any quantity. In fact Australia doesn’t directly.
With so few British players available at that size and so few good NRL players willing to move or whom we can afford the likes of PP get away with it. They remain attractive to the lesser clubs like us and Salford despite their massive limitations because in this size obsessed era they are all that’s on offer.
We kid ourselves that their heft will make up for their deficiencies and it rarely does. If you can’t or more likely won’t play it makes no difference, you will fail.
PP is just about capable of two good 10 minute spells especially near the opposition line if he’s up for it. In three years he’s had half a season where he just about managed it. There is no real promise in a player like that no matter how much you know it could be different. He’s just not got the desire.
To CC credit it didn’t take him long to spot that and act on it. He moved Pap out as soon as he could and kudos to him for it. It takes a lot of bottle to tell an Aussie he’s not good enough as usually they are untoucheable. Even Kear fell for that with Hickey.
You should take heart from that. CC may not always get it right but at least he’s not totally besotted with all things NRL.
