The aggression, commitment and enthusiasm in defence was really good tonight, shame we have no one to lead the players around the pitch to give us a chance in the opponents half.

Defence was shocking I thought. wire looked capable of making 70 yards every time they picked the ball up from a (pish poor) kick

Of particular concern - apart from the ease with which they made ground - was the fact that they had so many men over when they scored their tries. The one where they went to the video ref (when Calderwood made the tackle over the line) was particularly bad - four men to our two.

Shocking is an over reaction IMO. Pish poor kick meant they started on the front foot for their full strength pack to move them further forward. Then an attacking kick would often get them a repeat set.



Actually thinking about it our defence was pretty good! Maybe one or two individual errors, thought Broughton's positioning was poor for the winning try. But then again he is a young lad on loan with limited first grade experience and who is primarily a centre.

Point is they should never have been in the position to force those repeat sets. There are 13 players on the pitch surely one of those can kick a ball, in fact the only decent kick i saw was when Houghton kicked it under pressure and it went to neither the full back or the winger, sure he would make a better kicker than gormless.

They made big yards as their forwards (Morley and Carvell), rans the ball in as if their backsides were on fire. Ours, with the exception of Thackray (who is too lightwieght adn bounces off ) don't.



Can anyone really say that Dowes, Cusack and King run the ball in with the same type of aggression that the Warrington props did tonight?



Then, tonight were have another example of one team working with effective (and not even world beating) halves who can create confusion and have a kicking game.



The other team clearly didn't have that.
