Don't know how good McNamara would be as England coach (the job's a bit different from coaching at club level), but if Brian McDermott goes to Odsal, God help the Bulls!

What this thread highlights to me is that we still consider the England coach to be a job required for 5 weeks a year - the French match midyear and the 4 Nations



The England coach should be monitoring and testing players throughout the year and needs to be given the time with the squad during the season to develop a team environment



As a sport, we are even more club dominated than soccer which has designated international weekends



We have less playing talent at our disposal than the Aussies and if we are going to go to the 4 Nations down under with any chance, the England coach should be given the resources and time required to forge a team



Until we reach that point, it doesn't really matter who is appointed to the position, they are always going to be on the back foot



I guess we need a real commitment from all within the sport that the international scene is more important than the club game... the irony is of course that international success for England would be a real shot in the arm for the club game

Well, regarding the lack of playing talent, this is something I've been banging on about for ages. But that's mainly due to how I feel SL is failing in terms of increasing the number of clubs yet reducing the number of players those clubs can have.

the job is looking to produce 30 world class players for the 2013 world cup.

we go down under with McNamara and we'll be embarrassed like never before and undo all the positives we got out of the last 4nations..

I think it might more a case of club coaches not having time to coach England as well so their's no other alternative.
